Privacy Policy

This page explains what data is collected when you visit Guitarshelf, why, and how you stay in control — in particular over advertising and analytics cookies, managed through the consent banner shown on your first visit whenever either is enabled.

Site owner

Guitarshelf is a personal, non-commercial project run by Sébastien (see the About page). For any question about this policy or your data, the most reliable way to reach out is the Contact page form.

Data collected

Guitarshelf requires no sign-up and no account: your exercise notebook and browsing history stay stored only in your browser (localStorage), never sent to a server. Depending on which features are enabled on the site, the following data may still be collected:

• Analytics cookies (Google Analytics), if enabled: pages visited, time spent, device and browser type, approximate location — always subject to your prior consent via the banner.
• Advertising cookies (Google AdSense), if enabled: advertising identifiers, IP address, interests inferred from your browsing, used to show personalized or non-personalized ads — also subject to your prior consent via the banner.
• Your email address and message, only if you voluntarily use the contact form, so we can reply to you.
• An internal, anonymous and aggregated page-view counter (no individual data retained), used for site traffic statistics.

Purposes

The data above is used to: measure and understand site traffic (analytics), display ads that help fund the site's free hosting (see the About page), and reply to messages sent through the contact form.

Legal basis

Analytics and advertising cookies are only set after your explicit consent, collected via the banner shown on your first visit (GDPR Article 6.1.a). Handling contact-form messages relies on the legitimate interest of replying to a request you initiated yourself.

Data recipients

Analytics and advertising data is shared with Google (Google Analytics, Google AdSense) as a technical partner, under Google's own conditions and safeguards (standard contractual clauses for transfers outside the European Union). Guitarshelf never sells or shares your data with any third party other than Google.

Retention period

Your consent choice (accepted or declined) is kept for about 6 months before being asked again. Analytics and advertising cookies follow Google's default retention periods (generally up to 13 months). Messages sent through the contact form are kept only as long as needed to reply, then deleted.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights over your data:

• Right of access and rectification of data concerning you.
• Right to erasure of your data.
• Right to object and to withdraw your consent at any time, in particular via the consent banner.
• Right to portability of the data you provided to us.
• Right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority (CNIL in France, or your country of residence's equivalent).

If analytics or advertising cookies are enabled on the site, a banner lets you accept or decline them before anything is loaded, and change your mind at any time.
