Rock in D (Drop D II) — arpeggios
A more mobile variant of the same Drop D grid: the chord changes on almost every beat (D5d-G5d-D5d-E5d-G5d-D5d-E5d-D5d) rather than holding each one for two beats. The D5d, G5d, E5d progression played as arpeggios: on a power chord (root and fifth only, no third), arpeggiating doesn't mean picking apart a full chord like on an open chord — it means picking those two notes one after another with a pick, the foundation of the 'gallop' pattern so characteristic of metal riffing.
Tips
Slow down until every note rings clearly before increasing the tempo.
