Keep the thumb perfectly steady on the bass notes before worrying about the fingers: it's what holds the whole pattern's tempo together.

C-G-Am-Em fingerstyle
The pop loop without a pick: the thumb plays the root of each chord (C, G, A, E), the index, middle and ring finger pick the three treble strings in rhythm. Assign one finger per string and work the thumb bass alone across the whole loop before adding the fingers.
