This PDF guide has you work on four-chord progressions in four keys (D, G, F and E) in ten sheets. It starts from a simple idea: a progression expressed in scale degrees does not depend on the key. To transpose it, you shift every chord by the same distance.

Three degree-based formulas

  • I–V–vi–IV: D-A-Bm-G in D, then G-D-Em-C in G, with a steady pattern, chord changes, muted strums and syncopation.
  • I–V–vi–iii: F-C-Dm-Am in F, the structure of the C version transposed, as an introduction, as muted strums and then as arpeggios.
  • I–IV–V: E-A-B in E, the simplest formula, in rhythm then fingerpicked.

The guide ends with improvisation over the loop in G, using the relative minor scale, E minor.

A four-week path

Week 1, the I–V–vi–IV formula in D; week 2, the same in G; week 3, I–V–vi–iii in F; week 4, I–IV–V in E then improvisation. The classic trap is learning each key as something new when the structure is already familiar.

What the PDF adds to the online sheets

It is not just a collection of the site's sheets. The guide explains its learning order, offers a week-by-week practice plan and adds, for each sheet, its place in the path and a tip specific to the guide. Every sheet also links back to its online version.

Two versions of the same guide

The A4 version suits reading on a computer and printing. The eBook version has 108 × 144 mm pages (3:4 ratio) designed for 7-inch e-readers (Kobo, Kindle, Boox…), with enlarged text and chord diagrams; it stays readable on phones and tablets. The content is identical, only the layout differs.

Who is it for?

Guitarists who know their open chords and want to understand how songs are built. Plan on one sheet per session, and say the degrees out loud as you play.
