Blues in E
From warm-up to solo in 10 sheets
Level 1–3 Blues 10 sheets
The Blues in E pack gathers ten practice sheets into a single downloadable PDF, designed to be played one after another rather than separately. They all stay in the same key — E — from the first warm-up to the final turnaround, so each new sheet builds on what the previous one already set up, never starting from scratch.
Why one key from start to finish
Most learning resources mix exercises across different keys, forcing you to relearn a new hand position with every sheet. This pack does the opposite: the chord grid, the scale position and the riffs all stay in E, the most natural key for blues guitar (the grid's three chords — E7, A7, B7 — are all played as open chords). The result: the only thing that changes from one sheet to the next is the skill being worked on, never the fretboard reference point.
What's in the pack
- Chromatic warm-up in E — loosen up the fingers before playing, on the low E string.
- 12-bar rhythm — lock in a steady strum over the blues structure, before even changing chords.
- Blues in E, beginner — the full 12-bar grid, bar by bar, with the chord fixed on E7.
- Shuffle in E — the real E7-A7-B7 chord changes and the shuffle rhythm that gives blues its signature swing.
- Bend calibration — the technique that gives blues its expressive edge.
- E minor pentatonic scale, position 1 — the foundation for every riff and improvisation that follows.
- Groove riff in E minor — a repeated riff that builds right-hand rhythmic steadiness.
- Closing lick in E — a short phrase to punctuate and close a musical phrase.
- Blues improvisation in E — improvise freely over the grid using the scale already practiced.
- Turnaround in E — the cadence that loops the 12 bars and restarts the tune, closing the path.
How to use it
Print the pack all at once, or keep it as a PDF on a tablet near the guitar. One sheet per session is enough: better to replay it for several days in a row than to run through all ten at once. An extra PDF, meant to be read first, places each sheet within the overall path and gives a few practical tips.
This pack draws on sheets already available in Guitarshelf's sheet catalogue: each one remains viewable and transposable individually online, in other keys.
